Emergency Care

For critical trauma care.

You will be welcomed by one of our customer care specialists. Depending on the type of emergency, your pet may be immediately taken to the treatment area for stabilization where we have access to life-saving equipment. In these circumstances, you may be asked to provide immediate medical and financial authorization.

If emergency stabilization is not needed, a triage nurse will bring you into an examination room to assess your pet’s vitals (heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature) and obtain a history of events leading up to your arrival at VRCCO.

Next, the emergency doctor will review the nurse’s notes, perform an examination, and discuss diagnostic and treatment options with you. You will be provided an itemized financial treatment plan for these recommendations.

In some emergency cases, hospitalization is recommended. We offer 24-hour care. Your pet will be closely monitored by our doctors, nurses and staff. Our team will set up a communication plan for you with periodic updates on how your pet is doing as a guest in our hospital.

A treatment plan will be provided for any recommended diagnostics and/or treatments. An initial payment will be required for any procedure, surgery, or diagnostic work-up over $600. We gladly partner with CareCredit and Scratchpay to offer financing services to our clients. Please ask our team for more details. We are also happy to assist with submission of pet insurance claims to your pet’s insurance provider. We provide a 10% discount for owners in military service.

If your pet is insured with a Trupanion policy, our team would be happy to submit a request for pre-approval of recommended care and/or the claim at the time of your pet’s visit.

We accept cash, VISA, Mastercard, Discover, CareCredit and Scratchpay. Personal checks and American Express are not accepted.

Advanced Specialty Care

Scheduled appointments with advanced specialists.

We will reach out to your referring veterinarian to request medical records. Please bring copies of any medical records, x-rays and current medications. Please bring the bottles with the prescription label.

Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology & Surgery Consults: We recommend your pet arrive to the consultation on an empty stomach. We request your pet have no food after 10PM the night before the consultation. This allows for testing or procedures which require fasting to be performed on the same day of the consultation. Please continue to offer fresh drinking water at all times.

Dermatology Consults Please do not bathe your pet for 3 days before the appointment. Please do not clean your pet’s ears for 1 day before the appointment.

Please plan to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to allow for check-in and to give your pet extra time to become more comfortable at our hospital.

After your pet is checked in, the technician will take your pet to the exam room where their weight and vital signs (temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate) will be checked and a history will be obtained. The doctor will then review any medical records or x-rays provided by your family veterinarian and complete his/her exam of your pet. The doctor will discuss his/her findings and any recommended diagnostics or treatments. A treatment plan will be created and reviewed with you.

Please help yourself to a complimentary beverage and snack while waiting in our lobby. We have complimentary wifi available for our clients.
