An appointment or referral is not necessary to see our emergency doctors. We will triage your case according to urgency, however we do our best to have your pet seen by a doctor as soon as possible. It is also helpful for pet-parents to call ahead so we can be prepared to treat your pet.
For our veterinary specialists, an appointment is necessary to allow our team to prepare for your visit and have dedicated time for your pet’s consultation and care. Although many pets will be referred for services by their family veterinarian, a referral is not required. If your pet has a family veterinarian, our doctors will communicate closely to keep them informed of the care received and your pet’s progress.

We are happy to make arrangements to have you visit your pet while hospitalized. Please call and speak to your pet’s dedicated nurse to coordinate the best time for a visit.
Please note: Visitations can be tricky for pets. Sometimes visits are very well received by our guests and other times they become very anxious and stressed when they see their parents leave. For that reason we recommend you consider your pet’s personality, the medications they may be on while in the hospital, and the severity of their condition, and make a plan with your pet’s nurse for the best time to visit, if it is appropriate. Limited visits are allowed once per day as long as caseload allows. If the visit proves to have a negative impact on your pet’s healing due to anxiety after your departure their nurse or doctor will discuss this with you and possibly recommend halting additional visits for the duration of your pet’s stay.
There are many reasons for repeating diagnostics. In certain cases an additional view is needed on an x-ray. Oftentimes we analyze trends and bloodwork to see if values are improving. For all diagnostics, the veterinarian/specialist will discuss why these diagnostics are being recommended.
